Combined Vapor Permeation and Continuous Solid-State Distillation for Energy-Efficient Bioethanol Production

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extracting ethanol by steam directly from fermented solid-state bagasse is an emerging technology of energy-efficient bioethanol production. With continuous distillation (CSSD) approach, the vapor with more than 25 wt% flows out column. Conventionally, was concentrated to azeotrope rectification column, which contributes most energy consumption in As alternative, a process integrating CSSD and permeation (VP) membrane separation tested. In light existing industrial application NaA zeolite hydrophilic for dehydration, prospect replacing operation hydrophobic enriching mainly analyzed this paper. The performance commercial PDMS/PVDF wide range ethanol–water-vapor binary mixture evaluated experiment. correlation factor permeate flux at different transmembrane driving force measured. mass flow sheet proposed VP case were estimated respectively simulation software based on experimental data. Techno-economic analysis both cases performed. results demonstrated that additional cost higher but lower utilities required VP. discount payback period supplementary determined as 1.81 years compared service lifetime 3 years, indicating hybrid CSSD-VP effective efficient.

Energy-efficient control of solid-state lighting

Lighting control is in the midst of radical change. Presentday state-of-the-art lighting systems tend to be extremely complex. They exhibit very flexible actuation possibilities with many degrees of freedom that can be exploited to answer dynamiclighting needs. However, user interfaces to these systems are woefully lacking. They are frequently denigrated to a panel of buttons that select partic...

Solid State Fermentation for Production of Chitosan by Aspergillus Niger

The effect of Solid State Fermentation (SSF) on Chitosan production by A. niger was investigated. A. niger BBRC 20004 from Biochemical and Bioenvironmental Research Centre of Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran), was grown on corn residue. Chitosan was extracted from the fungal mycelia using hot alkaline and acid treatment. A. niger was incubated for 12 days on corn residue with moist...

Attainable region analysis for continuous production of second generation bioethanol

BACKGROUND Despite its semi-commercial status, ethanol production from lignocellulosics presents many complexities not yet fully solved. Since the pretreatment stage has been recognized as a complex and yield-determining step, it has been extensively studied. However, economic success of the production process also requires optimization of the biochemical conversion stage. This work addresses t...

Simulation of Anhydrous Bioethanol Production Process Using Efficiency Correlations for Conventional and Extractive Distillation

In this work, simulations of the complete separation process in anhydrous bioethanol production were carried out in Aspen Plus. This process comprises distillation and rectification columns as well as an extractive column. Equilibrium stage model and Barros & Wolf efficiency correlations were used to perform the calculations. Efficiency profiles were obtained for all columns showing that effici...
